RHOOSE FC capped a highly successful season by winning the South Wales FA Senior Cup last Friday night, overcoming Rhydyfelin AFC 3-1 in the final at Aberaman Park.
The Vale side, who play in the 1st Division of the South Wales Amateur League, took an early lead with midfield dynamo David Stevenson climbing high to head home from a Lewis Bryl corner.
Rhydyfelin equalised soon after following a free kick and that’s how it remained until the interval.
However, following a rousing half time team talk from Coach Paul Giles, Rhoose came out with all guns blazing and were soon rewarded with a stunning low strike from Polish import Tomasz Hadjuk.
The tie was put to bed in the 80th minute when top scorer Nicky Davison rounded off an incisive move to slot home following good work from ‘will-o-the-wisp’ Lewis Bryl and a pin point cross from Jeff White.
This was by far the biggest success in the club’s history, winning this highly prestigious trophy and rounding off a great season with the club finishing a creditable 3rd in the league.
