Barry Town face important but tough matches in both league and cup in the next few weeks, looking to secure a Top Six Cymru Premier league position and reach the MG Cup Final, writes Ian Johnson.

After 16 of the league’s 32 games, Barry are in fifth place in the Cymru Premier, with 25 points.

Barry have won seven of their matches this season, including a double over last year’s Welsh Cup winners, Connah’s Quay Nomads, where Barry scored late winners in both games, and against Deeside club, Flint Town United.

Ollie Hulbert has so far scored 11 goals in all competitions, while Keenan Patten has netted seven.

Once the league’s twelve clubs have played each other twice, the league splits into two, with the top half playing for the league title and European qualification, and the lower half looking to avoid relegation, with a single European play-off place to play for.

Finishing in the top half of the league would be Barry’s best finish since 2020-21, a season in which fans couldn’t attend matches due to the ongoing Covid pandemic.

There are six league games to go until that point, starting with an away match at Caernarfon Town this weekend, where the home side are just a point behind Barry, and would overtake them if they win.

The following match is the MG Cup Semi-Final against professional club, The New Saints, being played at Jenner Park on Sunday, 1st December at 5:45pm.

Barry have won the competition four times in the past, their last cup final appearance coming in 2017, against TNS.

During December, Barry have league matches away at Bala Town (7th Dec), home to Cardiff Met (10th Dec), and then an exciting Christmas week at home to league leaders, Penybont, from Bridgend on Boxing Day and away at Briton Ferry Llansawel on New Year’s Eve.

Phase One of the league ends on 11th January against Haverfordwest County.
