Barry went down to a disappointing 4-1 defeat away at Cymru Premier League leaders, Penybont.

Harrison Bright gave Barry a first half lead, but it became a second half to forget, with the home side scoring four times.

In front of nearly 1,000 fans, it was an even first half, with Barry making one change from last week’s winning team against Aberystwyth Town; Josh Yorwerth replacing the injured Mikey George.

After nearly 20 minutes, Barry goalkeeper Luc Rees pulled off a save from a low shot by Nathan Wood while a Sam Snaith header went over the bar at the other end.

In the 40th minute, Barry took the lead. Ollie Hulbert won the ball on the right, with Keenan Patten then releasing Harrison Bright on the left. Bright curled his shot over Penybont ‘keeper, Adam Przybek, to the delight of the travelling support.

Penybont equalised in the 52nd minute through Kane Owen. A cross from the right saw Owen shoot from the edge of the box, taking a deflection past Luc Rees in the Barry goal.

The game changed in the 78th minute. A scoring opportunity for Kayne McLaggon was called back for offside and Penybont scored at the other end, Owen firing low into the bottom corner, again shooting from the edge of the box.

Minutes later, Rees had no chance with the third. Holding off the challenge from Robbie Willmott, Wood let fly from 25 yards with a screamer into the top corner.

Penybont rubbed salt into the wound with a fourth goal in the final minutes. Veteran striker Chris Venables found space on the left, cutting inside to shoot past Rees.

The scoreline didn’t reflect the game, but clinical finishing from the home team gave them the points.

Barry will look to get back to winning ways with a home match against newly promoted Briton Ferry Llansawel at Jenner Park on Saturday, 2.30pm kick-off.
