JD CYMRU PREMIER: BARRY TOWN UNITED 1 ABERYSTWYTH TOWN 0
BARRY celebrated St Baruc’s Day last Friday with a 1-0 home win over Aberystwyth Town in the Cymru Premier, writes Ian Johnson.
However, it took Town until the 84th minute to break the deadlock, with Ollie Hulbert scoring his sixth league goal of the season.
From the start, Barry dominated the match against the mid-Wales club.
Hulbert had the game’s first chance, firing wide after 6 minutes, with a Keenan Patten free-kick over the bar a minute later.
Minutes later, Mikey George released Hulbert on the right. He slotted the ball across for Sam Snaith to shoot, but his effort was blocked, as was the follow-up by Patten.
From close range, Hulbert’s shot was saved by Dave Jones. Then he found space for himself in the Aber penalty box, but, after beating three defenders, his shot was dragged wide.
Eliot Richards had his shot from the edge of the box saved, while Snaith made space for himself but fired over.
At the other end, Devon Torry’s low attempt from the edge of the box went past the post for Aberystwyth.
Barry’s onslaught continued into the second half.
Just before the hour, Eliot Richards saw his shot cleared off the line, while Callum Sainty headed wide from the resulting corner.
Keenan Patten lashed a powerful volley towards goal, but that too was saved by Dave Jones.
Aber’s Man of the Match, Jones made a superb double save from Richards and then stopped the rebounded shot by Snaith.
Just when it seemed that the game would end up goal-less, Barry finally found the back of the net.
Aiden Lewis found Mikey George on the right. At the front post, Ieaun Owen forced the ball into the centre where Hulbert’s shot came back off the post. He was the first to react, pouncing to score.
Barry travel to Cymru Premier league leaders, Penybont, on Friday night, kicking off in Bridgend at 7:45pm.
