JD CYMRU PREMIER: BARRY TOWN UNITED 1 CAERNARFON TOWN 1

BOTH sides scored early in the first half as Barry and Caernarfon shared the points at Jenner Park last Saturday in a JD Cymru Premier match.

Barry started brightly, with Ollie Hulbert’s fourth minute shot hitting the post and then Robbie Willmott’s through ball to Sam Snaith going wide of the far post.

Caernarfon scored against the run of play in the 9th minute with their first attack.

Paulo Mendes won possession in the middle and Adam Davies’s pass went straight through the Barry defence for Louis Lloyd to run on and score.

Barry hit back almost immediately. Breaking down the right hand side, Hulbert squared the ball and Snaith beat his marker at the front post with a low shot, notching his third goal of the season.

The first half continued to swing between both clubs.

From close range, Caernarfon hit the post in the twentieth minute, but the danger was cleared.

Then Barry goalkeeper Luc Rees was called into action twice in three minutes to pull off saves from the visitors.

Barry also had their chances to take the lead, the best being a diagonal long ball from Mikey George which beat the defence, but Hulbert couldn’t take the ball with him past Stephen McMullen in the Caernarfon goal.

In the final moments of the first half, Rees again pulled off a spectacular save to keep the game level, diving to his left to stop a shot from Louis Lloyd flashing past him into the net.

After such an end to end first half, the second half was a less exciting affair, shaded by the visitors who nevertheless struggled to create chances.

Their best opportunity was a strong free-kick, which Rees pushed over the bar.

Barry face Aberystwyth Town at home on Friday night, kicking off at 7:45pm and have been drawn to face local rivals Penybont home in the MG Cup Quarter-Finals in a few weeks’ time.
