BARRY TOWN UNITED 3 FLINT TOWN UNITED 2: Report by Ian Johnson

Barry took all three points at Jenner Park last Saturday in a game of two halves, Town coming from two goals down to win 3-2.

After a promising start to the season, albeit with results not going their way, Barry’s first half performance against the newly promoted North Wales club was poor.

The first chance of the game fell to Barry, but Robbie Willmott’s cross to Ollie Hulbert saw the striker take a weak but on-target shot.

The visitors took the lead after 20 minutes. Barry attempted to play the ball out from the back but were caught in possession by Jake Phillips, allowing Josh Jones an easy chance to score from the edge of the box.

It became 2-0 in the 39th minute when the Barry defence was split by a long ball. Florian Yonsian got to the ball before Barry ‘keeper Liam Armstrong, putting the ball past him into the empty net.

Steve Jenkins’s half-time team-talk worked wonders for Barry, who pulled a goal back in the 48th minute.

A cross from Robbie Willmott was handled in the box and Keenan Patten smashed the penalty home.

Barry soon levelled. Willmott’s corner on the right found Sam Snaith unmarked in the centre and his powerful header left the keeper with no chance.

The match-winner came after 66 minutes. This time it was Flint failing to clear their lines, and Willmott dispossessed Phillips at the edge of the box. Hulbert found space and beat the ‘keeper at his near post.

Barry could have scored more.

Patten made the visitors’ keeper, Jake Flint, push his shot away from goal, while a teasing run from Rhys Schwank saw his shot cannon off the crossbar.

In a tense final few minutes, Flint sought a late equaliser, but Barry held on for their first three points of the Cymru Premier season.

Next Saturday, Barry travel to face last year’s runners-up, Connah’s Quay Nomads.
