It was a mixed bag of results for Vale of Glamorgan teams this past weekend in the JD FAW Welsh Cup Qualifying Round 1.

Seven Vale football clubs kicked off the 2024-2025 season, with Holton Road securing an impressive 3-0 victory over newly promoted Bridgend Street despite the division gap.

Dan Morgan opened the scoring in less than 10 minutes, with Bayley Harewood and Shaun Jachontow also securing goals. All three - including Harewood's 40 yard screamer - were scored before half time.

Wenvoe's Ely Rangers triumphed over the Rhondda Bulldogs, with Alex Long, Luke Garland, and Yusef Mohammed Moore all making their mark with goals for Rangers.

Dinas Powys, however, fell short with a 4-1 loss to Rogerstone despite an early equalising goal scored by Izaac Follen.

Drama unfolded in the game between Sully Sports and Cwm Wanderers, with Sully initially pulling ahead 3-0 only for Cwm to catch up late in the game.

After an equalising goal in the 90th minute from Cwm making the game level at 3-3, the game was taken to penalties and Sully unfortunately lost the shootout 5-4.

Elsewhere, Cardiff Airport progressed to the next round after defeating Llangennech 2-0, thanks to goals from James Scott and Sonny Lambert.

Vale United, after going down 2-0 to Chepstow Town early in the match, managed to pull one back and then equalise in the second half; however, Chepstow secured their win with a final goal just three minutes later.

Lastly, St Athan faced a significant blow against Caerphilly Athletic.

Despite a goal from Sean Lucas keeping St Athan in the game at half-time, Athletic scored six unanswered goals in the second half, securing their victory with a resounding 8-1 score line.
