Report by Ian Johnson
BARRY Town players return to training this week with twelve of last season’s squad on Steve Jenkins’s retained list ahead of the 2024-25 season.
Striker Kayne McLaggon becomes the longest consecutively serving player at the club, entering his eighth season at Jenner Park after making his debut back in Summer 2017.
Signed last Summer from Fleetwood Town, goalkeeper Luc Rees remains at Barry, alongside defenders Mike George and Will Richards, the latter a mid-season signing at centre-back.
In midfield, Evan Press, Keenan Patten and Aiden Lewis all remain part of the squad for the new season, with the experienced Callum Sainty.
Last year’s top scorer, Ollie Hulbert, stays with Barry for a second season, with fellow striker Sam Snaith also staying in the squad.
Regulars in last season’s Development Team, Callum Huggins and Drew Perrett, are now formally first team squad members.
More signings will be announced shortly, ahead of Barry’s first pre-season friendly away at National League North side, Oxford City, on Saturday, 6th July.
At the end of last season, it was announced that long-serving players Jordan Cotterill, Mike Lewis and Chris Hugh were all leaving Jenner Park, marking the end of an era.
A further six players have now left the club during the Summer.
With over a hundred matches under his belt since signing for Barry in 2020, central defender Curtis McDonald leaves the club, while defender Ben Blythe returns to Swansea City after his season on loan at Jenner Park came to an end.
Left back Rhys Davies leaves Barry after two seasons.
Midfielders Jamie Veale and Lucas Tomlinson have both left the club after twelve months with the Town, while Lee Lucas, who joined Barry in January, is also departing.
Veale is moving to Pontypridd, Tomlinson to Barry’s pre-season friendly opponents, Yate Town, and Lucas returns to his former club, Merthyr Town.
Cymru Premier League fixtures for the new season will be announced shortly.
