Barry Town U19s have been celebrating winning the league.

The team secured the Genero Adran South Development League Championship after a victory away at Cascade, which saw them surpass Cardiff City for the title.

After achieving victory, the squad members proudly displayed their championship trophy at the men's first team match against Aberystwyth Town.

On Sunday, they are set to travel to Newtown where they will contend in a national play-off against northern league champions, Connah’s Quay Nomads.

Barry Town mayor, Cllr Ian Johnson, was impressed with the team's efforts.

Cllr Johnson said: "It was a great achievement for Barry Town’s under-19s to win the league, ahead of both Cardiff City and Swansea City."

The mayor further highlighted how the team overcame challenges stating: "The title seemed out of reach only a fortnight ago when a 3-3 draw at home to Cardiff put the visitors in the driving seat."

However, despite these odds, he said: "Barry won away at Briton Ferry and Cascade in their final two matches, while Cardiff slipped up."

Cllr Johnson also wished the team good fortune in their forthcoming play-off final.

He said: "Good luck to the team in their play-off final next Sunday, which will make them the national under-19 champions."
