WITH Sully Centurions’1st XI game being called off due to the rain, the 2nd XI took centre stage when they entertained Lisvane IV at Burnham Avenue.

After a delay due to some heavy rain, the captains agreed to a reduced overs match of 35 overs per innings.

On losing the toss it came as no surprise that Centurions were asked to bat by the visitors. Openers Jason Hicks and Pavel made a cautious start, but, once they had become accustomed to the conditions, the runs began to flow.

Pavel played the attacking role, with Hicks giving sterling support at the other end.

After reaching a half century that included 9 fours and one 6, Pavel was bowled by Wahid with the score on 71. Nicky Jones added a quick 24 before being trapped LBW by Afridi.

Iwan Thomas was also out LBW for just 3 with the score on 118.

However, the partnership of Harish and Lewis Pyke took the score along to 155, before Harish fell to the bowling of Rowles for 26.

Following the unfortunate run out of Chris Coles, Pyke (29 not out) and Pete Beddard (13 not out) ensured that Centurions finished on 192-6.

Following tea, during which the clouds were starting to look ominous, Centurions had the best possible start when Harish bowled the veteran Peter Allen first ball.

Again, the batsmen found runs at a premium, due to the conditions and also to the accuracy of the opening pair of Pavel and Harish.

Wahid fell to Harish in the ninth over, being LBW for 8 with the score on 17.

After the third wicket pair of Snehasis Tripathy and Prithvi Tripathy took the score along to 46, Nick Jones bowled Snehasis for 15.

A first ball duck was the fate of Flynn, being trapped LBW by Jones. Only Tripathy, who was eventually caught off the bowling of Beddard for 37, was able to make much headway as the wickets kept falling, leaving the pursuit of bonus points as Lisvane's only remaining target.

Then the heavens opened once more, causing another short delay.

After it was deemed ok to go back out again. Jason Hicks (3-9) and Iwan Thomas (1-18) mopped up the tail to have Lisvane all out for 102 in the final over.

Nick Jones' 2-31, Daniel Guy's 1-9 and Harish's excellent 2-4 were the main talking points in the Sully attack.

This 90-run victory has lifted Centurions to second place in the league, just one point behind Whitchurch, with three matches to play.
