DURING the latest round of matches in the Vale of Glamorgan Football League, Cardiff Airport left rivals St Athan shocked and stunned as they were victorious in the big Premier Division title clash with a resounding 5-0 thumping away win.
The victory moves Airport into second place and level on points with new league leaders Wenvoe who have played a game more.
Wenvoe secured a 4-2 win over Cowbridge Town to move top on goal difference but Cardiff Airport and St Athan each have a game in hand.
Airport can clinch a second successive Premier Division title by winning their final two games of the season, both against Dinas Powys Athletic on Monday and Thursday this week.
Elsewhere in the Premier Division SP Construction won the battle of the bottom two 3-2 against Island Marine, the result sees SP leap frog Penarth Town into ninth place.
The ASRS Cup semi-finals were finally played this past weekend, Dinas Powys Athletic booked their place in the final with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Barry Athletic in somewhat of an upset. They will face Penarth Town who defeated the out of form AFC Rhoose 2-1 to set up the Jenner Park historic ASRS Cup showpiece final.
In Division One leaders Cogan Coronation inched closer to the title with a 6-2 win against AFC Rhoose B, Sully won 5-1 over Cardiff Airport B to stay two points behind but having played two games more.
Vale United dropped valuable points in their promotion push as they were held 1-1 by Cadoxton Barry. Barry Belgrade's poor run of results continued as they were thrashed 4-0 by FC Pumas, making it four defeats in a row in all competitions.
Bottom side BV were edged out 3-2 by Cadoxton Athletic.
In Division Two the title race looks to be going to the wire. Leaders Barry Athletic B notched a 5-1 win over FC Pumas B to stay five points ahead of Dockers, who recorded a 2-1 victory over Penarth Town B. Dockers however have two games in hand.
Third place Cadoxton Imps put daylight between them and Knap by routing them 7-1, although again Knap have two games in hand. Finally, Island Marine B won 4-2 over bottom side Barry Albion.
Next weekend the destination for the Premier Division Title will be revealed ahead of the Barry Cup Final on Sunday. Cardiff Airport will face Wenvoe in what promises to be a classic at Jenner Park.
