BARRY TOWN 1 LLANELLI 0
THIS NARROW win over the bottom club on Tuesday evening puts Barry three points clear of TNS with 55 points.
Even at this stage with 10 games left it is unlikely that Cwmbran in 8th place will even obtain 55 points when all games are played.
Afan Lido, Aberystwyth and Connah's Quay are just above and seem unlikely to exceed 60 points. Rhyl in 4th place may just do it which means the only teams likely to challenge Barry are TNS and Bangor on the 22nd of this month.
This is the only match Barry will play in February, except this Saturday when Barry play Pontardawe in the Welsh Cup.
If anyone from Pontardawe saw this match against Llanelli, then they will take heart as once again Barry failed to break down a bottom club.
Solitary goal
Barry struggled significantly against Llanelli who put themselves about and defended in numbers, Kenny Brown's men getting a solitary goal through Leon Jeanne, separating the sides.
The game as a spectacle was poor and Barry once again had no spark and little combative spirit in midfield. Barry gave Llanelli too much possession and gave far too much space in the middle of the park.
Only in the last 15 minutes did they show any urgency and the best players on view were Barry's back line of Lee Jarman, Lee Phillips, Andy York and Gary Lloyd with Lee Jarman deserving man of the match.
Leon Jeanne seized on a deep ball by Lee Jarman and volleyed over the keeper.
It was 1-0 after just four minutes and Jeanne almost volleyed a similar goal 10 minutes later.
A spell of pressure for the visitors produced a good chance to equalise but was hit wide and Jeanne tried a sharp angled shot after a superb ball by Lloyd set him up.
Denied by crossbar
After the break Phillip's good run gave Moralee a chance but he hit the bar from close range.
Barry got desperate to score and Burke, Pratt and Cotterill all tried to score from some way out but no further goals were on the cards and Barry gratefully took their narrow win to put them clear of TNS.
This Saturday it's cup action as Simon Dyer's Pontardawe from the Welsh League take on the Welsh Cup holders. Kick off is at 2.30pm.
Barry then take a two week break before taking on Bangor.
The supporters bus will leave at 8am. The price for adults is £10 and children £5.
