A GRIEVING Barry mother has spoken out about the loss of her only son after the coroner released a death certificate stating he died of natural causes.
Former Cardiff Road resident Val Cambridge moved to Scotland after the death of her son Andrew, 25.
The father-of-two was found unconscious in the early hours of July 2, 2002 in Main Street and despite paramedics' attempts to revive him he died before they reached hospital.
Toxicology tests came back negative and because of the mystery surrounding his death, Val could not bury him until August 9, 2002.
But an inquest has shown that Andrew did not die as a result of drugs, as was suspected. His death has been recorded as one of natural causes.
Cardiff Coroner Derek Hassan said: "Mr Cambridge was found to be suffering from aspiration pneumonia, but unfortunately his lifestyle had masked the symptoms.
He could have been given treatment for this illness. As such it has been recorded that Mr Cambridge died of natural causes and the case is now closed."
His mother, a retired nurse who is now living in Scotland, said she can finally move on now the cause of death has been established.
She told the news: "Now the coroner has released the death certificate, I feel it is the time to say thank you to those who have supported me.
"I would like to thank those in Main Street - Michelle, Kurt and family, Russell and Stell Lloyd, Roy's Toys, Neil and Vicky Llewellyn, and representatives from the Mormon Church. Barry police have also been very helpful, especially Lisa Lewis.
"Can I also thank the members of the Kingdom Hall, the Szuchniks, the O'Connell and Lincoln families, Barney and Renee, Joanne Parfitt, Leanne, Hayley, Steve, Emma, Jessica Pake, Dominic, Stephanie, Joanne and Fletch, Chris Pope, Janet, Ralph and Tessa Mills. "I have not forgotten people who showed their care and concern, I appreciated them all."
