ON EVENING recently I decided to take my family to watch a film at the Theatre Royal in Barry.
However, on a cold evening, the enjoyment of the film was spoiled by the freezing conditions inside the theatre.
The majority of the patrons kept their coats on during the two hour performance.
On leaving the cinema I requested to speak to the manager but was informed it was his night off.
The following day I decided to telephone the cinema to request an explanation.
I was not prepared for the report I received. I felt I was accused of fabricating the situation and then the phone was put down.
This does not give a good impression of our local cinema and I feel it will be a long time before I use its facilities again . D Lloyd, Cross Street, Barry
Theatre Royal Manager Lyn Williams told the News: "I was not working on that day having had the night off.
There were no reports of problems with the heating, but I was told by staff that it was a very cold night.
When the phone call came through to me the next morning, I tried to tell the customer that the heating was working but that I would investigate the problem.
The phone line went dead and I tried to call him back, but his number had not registered on 1471.
I checked the heating thermostats, the timer switches, the radiators and the boiler.
Everything was in order. Apart from the fact that it was just an exceptionally cold night, I could not find a reason for the complaint.
I suggest people say something as soon as they feel uncomfortable so any problems can be looked into immediately."
