IT'S a film about a young boy, who, with some magical ability, is signed by a top sports team.
It doesn't come much more original than that now does it?
This is pretty much a rip-off of Rookie Of The Year, and you already pretty much know what is going to happen!
It stars Lil' Bow Wow, it had to be bad! But for some reason, this is decent.
Calvin Cambridge is a young orphan who stumbles across an old pair of Michael Jordan's discarded sneakers.
When he puts them on, Calvin had the ability of any NBA player.
With his new talent, Calvin is signed by the Knights and becomes a superstar.
But people try to rid him of his sneakers.
Let me first just say that Lil' Bow Wow is everything that is wrong with the music industry.
His musical talent isn't exactly impressive and his rhymes are not capable of having some value compared to his older rappers.
But if he had the talent to shine on the big screen, than I have no problem with him appearing in films.
Here, he hasn't exactly revolutionised acting (the whole film doesn't revolutionise anything actually!), but he fits the character of Calvin Cambridge, and his on-screen relationship with Morris Chestnut works well.
Any sports comedy made these days is clattered with cliches.
Like Mike makes no exception, but at least this one works well.
It mostly works because of the direction of John Schultz.
While his story is ruled by cliches, he directs all of his action sequences, basketball shots and fun-kids stuff perfectly.
This is how kid's films are supposed to be made.
It had the comedy and excitement that should be included and it never goes over the top with them, so the older members of the audience don't have to keep checking their watches.
