FURIOUS Barry car owners are hitting back after being penalised for trying to park outside their own homes.
Drivers in upper Romilly Road, close to the schools, find it almost impossible to get a space on the road.
Plaid Cymru's Cllr Howard Provis is taking the matter to the Vale of Glamorgan Council to relieve the parking pressure in his street.
The Barry Town councillor told the News: "I can't blame traffic wardens and police for doing their job, but it's nearly impossible to park without getting booked.
Through the day there's over-flow from Romilly schools, who are trying to solve their parking problems.
"But we also have an intense area of activity throughout the evening.
At both the Guides Hall and the school, used for a variety of fitness groups, participants tend to arrive in cars.
And on the weekend, many people drive to the Park Crescent pub, leaving their cars until the next day.
Even late at night, I'll be lucky if I can find a space."
According to Cllr Provis, the double yellow lines painted the length of the school are unnecessary.
He added: "I have a range of ideas from a one-way system to resident permit parking. Surely something can be done."
A spokesman for the Vale of Glamorgan Council said: "While the council has sympathy for local residents it must be recognised that existing parking restrictions in Romilly Road have been in place for some considerable time and originated on the grounds of safety."
