BARRY v ABERYSTWYTH (POSTPONED)
BARRY'S Welsh cup game against Aberystwyth was called off at 11am on the Saturday morning. Barry Town players had travelled up the night before, which was a costly exercise for the club.
The torrential rain of the previous two days had made Park Avenue unplayable. The supporters coach had reached Builth Wells before turning back.
Alun Evans, an advocate for summer football, would have had some strength to his argument after this. The unpredictable British weather can costs clubs an awful lot of money playing in the winter months.
The previous evening the supporters had a social evening, with contributions from Mr Evans, Laurence Houlihane from the BBC and Barry chairman John Fashanu.
The ex-Wimbledon star intrigued his audience with stories of his Wimbledon days and episodes of the capers he got up to with Messrs Vinny Jones and crew.
BARRY V CAERSWS (POSTPONED)
Once again Barry were frustrated by the torrential rain as the Caersws pitch was declared to be waterlogged last Tuesday.
Saturday's home game against Carmarthen is now postponed, as the Welsh Cup takes priority.
Therefore Barry will try this weekend to play Aberystwyth at Park Avenue.
The semi-final draw has been put back as only one quarter-final was played, Rhyl beating Connah's Quay 1-0.
On Sunday, kick off 5pm, Barry will play the Vale of Glamorgan Council team in a friendly. All proceeds will go to children's charity Ty Hafan. Entry is just £1.
All Barry Town players will be present and a sunny afternoon is hoped for, to play this fun game for such a worthy cause. After the game, everybody is welcome to visit the clubhouse for refreshments and a special raffle.
JUNIOR DRAGONS PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD
On Monday, April 14, this annual event will be held at the players' lounge from 2pm to 4pm. This will be for members only (membership is now closed). Please contact Erica on 420041 for further information and to book your place.
PLAYER OF THE YEAR NIGHT
This popular event is scheduled for April 26. Tickets, always in demand, will be available from Wednesday, March 19, priced at £6 for members. Non members can purchase tickets at £8 (membership is now closed).
PRESSURE
A 2-0 midweek win by TNS put them three points clear of Barry, putting more pressure on Kenny's men to go for maximum points. Any slip-ups in the league could be boosted if Barry can once again win the Welsh Cup which gives a passport to Europe. Barry have won the Welsh Cup for the last two seasons but have not needed the option as they were also champions.
TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS
The supporters coach leaves at 9.30pm on Saturday for Aberystwyth. Ring Tim on 734050 if you have not booked.
