WHILE visiting Barry recently I felt shock when I read that the Memorial Hall had been subjected to some 'pop art' name. This is presumably to make it more useable. Whatever, it reflects badly on us all that this should even be a perception.
A 'nickname' is, in my book, an insult to those in whose memory the Hall was dedicated. It is a degrading concept that trivialises the lives of those who sacrificed themselves so that we should all be free.
Some of those who died were members of my own family and some were my friends at school. I think about them and I think about the re-naming of the Memorial Hall and I wonder - what sort of people are we becoming?
