THE VALE of Glamorgan Council's Sports Development Unit is offering disabled adults an opportunity to try their hand at the sport of boccia.
Two six-week introductory courses (10.30-11.30am for adults with physical disabilities) and (11.30am - 12.30pm for adults with learning disabilities) will run at the Holm View Leisure Centre, Barry, from Tuesday, April 1, until Tuesday, May 6.
Similar to bowls and originally created for people with cerebral palsy, boccia is now played by individuals of all abilities.
The game can be played as singles, pairs or triples, and players can throw, roll - using a ramp if needed - or kick the ball. The basic principle is to secure the highest number of points by positioning bowls close to a target ball.
Boccia is played recreationally and competitively - up to paralympic level - by both disabled and able-bodied people.
Anyone interested in obtaining a registration form for the courses or wishing to become involved in the exciting sport as a coach, referee or assistant should contact Karen Davies, Disability Sport Cymru Development Officer, on 01446 704728.
