Criticism of the Barry Silver Band was made at Monday's meting of the Town Council when Cllr R D Williams said that the band did not turn out in full uniform, neither did they play suitable music in the parks

Mr W C Stone, Hywel Crescent, was nominated as Labour candidate for the Court Ward yesterday (Wednesday) week, to stand for the forthcoming local elections. n W G Brown, the promising young Cadoxton boxer, was voted the unluckiest loser when he was defeated in the semi final of the 9st 7lb Youth Championships at the Albert Hall, London on Saturday.

A whist drive in aid of the Mayor's Flood Fund was held at the Memorial Hall last week, when over 250 people were present.

At the Barry Music Club last week Mr Parker, presented a very varied programme, which included the last talk in the series "Stories From the Opera" and the playing of a member's favourite gramophone records.

Russell Willey received the Scout Medal for Meritorious conduct from the Group Scout Leader of the 1st Barry Group, Mr Roy Fisher.

Mr Gareth D Howe, director of Meggitt and Price, timber importers of Barry Dock, part of the Powell Dyffryn Timber Group, was last week elected chairman of the Bristol Channel Timber Trades Association.

A major flour milling company has Barry Docks in mind as it's main flour exporting outlet to Asian countries. One of the country's biggest concerns, Allied Mills Ltd, said it had chosen Barry for its first shipment of flour to Sri Lanka because they were impressed with the dock's attitude.

A major community youth centre and sporting complex costing about £200,000 for Barry was announced yesterday by the Young Men's Christian Association - the biggest scheme of its kind ever undertaken in the Vale of Glamorgan.
