WELSHPOOL 0, BARRY TOWN 4

BARRY dismissed the challenge of league newcomers Welshpool with three goals in the first half. Really it was no contest because Barry were in total control.

Barry simply have to win every game if they are going to retain the championship but they are being tried and tested all the way by TNS and Bangor.

This is simply the most exciting title battle in the league's history - a classic three horse race with all the ingredients of a fight to the very last.

The winners will be in the Champions League this summer, with the runners-up in the UEFA Cup, and the third placed side in the Inter-Toto Cup.

To come third would be unacceptable for Kenny Brown's men and reflect badly on the most talented squad in the league.

If Barry do come third they would still have a lifeline by winning the Welsh Cup.

The winners will play in the UEFA Cup and the fourth placed side will then play in the Inter-Toto.

So it's all to play for and Barry cannot afford to drop any more points.

There are seven league games, vitally five at home, whilst Barry play Rhyl at Aberystwyth on April 5 in the semi-final of the Welsh Cup.

Barry supporters arriving at Welshpool were shocked to see talented winger Leon Jeanne not in the squad.

It seems that Jeanne, a former QPR and Cardiff City player, is unhappy at Barry and not in Kenny Brown's plans.

Barry did, however, have a great bonus in the introduction of a new player Adebayo Akinfenwa.

The 20-year-old was playing with Lithuanian side Atlantis and left because of the club's financial plight.

He is a highly rated Nigerian who should break into the full international side.

Akinfenwa, known as "Bayo", came on as a 16th minute substitute for the injured Nathan Cotterill.

He quickly showed his ability to attack with pace and use his muscular body to trouble defenders.

On 26 minutes a Jamie Jenkins free kick picked out Lee Jarman who put Barry 1-0 ahead. Two minutes later Kenny Brown picked out top scorer Jamie Moralee who netted to make it 2-0.

Right on half time a deep Gary Lloyd cross from all of 40 yards, bounced in front of home keeper Goodwin and flew over him into the top corner.

The second half lacked excitement but Tom Ramasut crossed for debutant Bayo to score and make it 4-0 in the 60th minute.

Ramasut was lively right through for Barry and earned the man of the match award just ahead of Bayo.

Jamie Moralee, back after injury, also performed well with some clever flick-ons and first touches.

Barry fans will be delighted that they are home on Sunday to Flexsys Cefn Druids with a kick off of 3.30pm.

As it is Mothering Sunday the club is extending an invitation for all mothers to come to the match free of charge.

Fans are asked to turn up in force to cheer the lads on to victory.

Tomorrow night sees the Wales v Azerbaijan Under-21 international at Jenner Park.

Tickets at £2 for adults and £1 for OAPS and children are going fast but the club will remain open until 10pm tonight (Thursday) to obtain tickets.
