VALE Police are celebrating the 4th anniversary of the Community and Race Relations Advisory Group.
The aims of the group are to monitor quality of service to the visible minority ethnic communities and other minority and vulnerable groups of South Wales with particular emphasis on:
The relationship between the South Wales Police and visible minority ethnic communities and other minority and vulnerable groups;
Monitoring racial incidents, racial attacks and incidents of racial abuse and;
Monitoring the police response to such incidents.
The group also monitors demographic trends in relation to the ethnic/age profile of the population to ensure a continuing quality of service to the ever-changing communities of the South Wales Policing area.
The group has recently established self-reporting centres at the Citizens Advice Bureau's throughout the Vale of Glamorgan, the Muslim community centre in Barry, Women's Aid in Barry, Barry College and Barry Hospital.
The purpose of these self-reporting centres is to provide a place where people can report an incident of crime or report an issue of concern, rather than having to report to the police station.
If anyone is interested in joining the group, which meets bi-monthly, or would like further information please contact PC Neil Thomas at the Community Safety department on 01446 749917 or Catrin Griffiths at the Vale of Glamorgan Council on 01446 700111.
