THE BOURNE Identity, starring Matt Damon and Franka Potente, is based very loosely on the Robert Ludlum novel.

Jason Bourne's (Damon) wounded body is dragged out of the Mediterranean Sea by fisherman. Riddled with bullets and with a weird capsule buried in his hip, he is brought back to health.

But Jason cannot remember a thing and has to find out who he is and why he was shot in the back.

Figuring out he has a Swiss bank account filled with false passports, foreign currency and a gun, Jason realises that he is being hunted.

Unwittingly dragging Marie (Potente) into his fight for life, it becomes a race against time as Jason plays cat and mouse with a adversary he doesn't even know.

Not only does he have to save their future, but he has to stop his past from being erased.

Discovering he has a talent for languages and a skill for killing, Jason soon realises that there's more to him than meets the eye.

But can he get to the truth before his past catches up with him?

Described as an explosive action thriller, this movie does keep you entertained.

But it does lack that certain pace promised by the build-up.

However, if you accept it at face value and just want a bit of decent cinema, this will do you just fine.
