MEMBERS of the Barry Branch of the Royal British Legion have been concerned for some time at the use of the nickname "The Memo" on signs and stationery advertising the Barry Memorial Hall.
While we realise that many people use the nickname in conversation about the Memorial Hall, we felt that to use it on display boards and headed notepaper was to lose the fact that it was erected as a Memorial to those lost in battle.
We have sent several letters to the town council and had a meeting with the head of the council without success.
The Barry Branch of the Royal British Legion is now running a petition objecting to the "Memo" signs outside the Memorial Hall.
So far we have collected over 500 signatures without any publicity, but we know that many members of the public in Barry are also concerned over the use of the nickname on display signs and stationery.
Copies of the petition form are available from the branch chairman, Mr Arthur Davies on 01446 740426, treasurer John Hobbs on 01446 406066 and secretary Cliff Darlington on 01446 711084. They should be returned by Monday, April 14.
