EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of April 2, 1953:

On Monday, March 6, 500 Boy Scouts and Cubs from seven or eight troops in the Barry area will sally forth on their "bob-a-job" week for the fifth spring in succession.

Miss Elain Williams, aged nine, won the girls' under 14 solo and the open solo at the recent Llancarfan Eisteddfod, and last week was successful in her primary pianoforte examination.

The Mayor of Barry's Flood Disaster Fund has now passed the £1,000 mark.

A well deserved tribute was paid to Mr Gwilym Williams at the end of the show "Starlight Review" the last of the winter season's show at the Memorial Hall on Saturday.

Among the local plans to further this work, the Barry Male Voice Party are combining with Mr Sandy McPherson - the well known organist of "Twilight Hour" game, to give a concert in the town.

EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of April 6, 1978:

On Thursday the Gibbonsdown Darby and Joan Club held an Easter bonnet parade followed by an Easter tea.

The eventual winner was Mrs Gwen Jones with Mrs Elsa Elston second and Mrs Min Weston third.

Undergoing training as an air traffic control assistant at RAF Shawbury in Shropshire is Lorraine Anne Mary McCormack of Cwm Barry Way, Barry.

Lorraine, who is 17 years of age, is a former pupils of Bryn Hafren Girls' Comprehensive School.

Prior to the Annual General Meeting of the Abbeyfield Barry Society at the Abbeyfield House in St Nicholas Road, Barry, Mr Alcwyn Evans presented a cheque for £1,000 to the society in memory of his father Mr Dan Evans.

The lucky winner of the first lottery run by Brickscene Ltd, for Barry Town Football Club, was Mrs Ivy Holmes, of Main Street, Cadoxton, who received a cheque for £1,000.
