A teaching assistant at a Penarth primary school that left 3 pupils alone on a school trip has been reprimanded by the Education Workforce Council.
Chloe Munn a teaching assistant at Llandough Primary was responsible for the safety of reception pupils whilst on a school trip to Cosmeston lakes.
During the trip which took place April 18th, 2023, Munn left three pupils unaccompanied outside a toilet.
During the hearing it was acknowledged that Munn was very new to the role given her previous experience working in the school’s nursery.
It was also noted that the risk assessment surrounding the trip did not address how children would be taken to the toilet.
Helen Jones a registered school support worker stated: “She’s accepted she had taken the wrong course of action and shown insight into her actions by regretting this incident.
“The risk assessment did not address how children would not be taken to the toilet.
“Miss Munn was new to her role and the committee took into account no evidence of on-the-job training provided.”
At the end of the hearing, it was revealed that Chloe Munn was reprimanded for her actions and the incident will be registered for a period of two years and accessible to future employers.
Munn also has a right of appeal at High Court should she choose to act against this.
