Last Saturday (November 23rd) I decided to carry out an ‘I try’ of one of Barry’s best cocktail bars.
Craft Republic wine and cocktail bar is located in Barry’s Goodsheds and has a 5-star rating on Trip Advisor.
The business offers a variety of different drinks options available for members of the public to enjoy and is run by business owners Claire and Tim Whalley.
On its website the business describes itself as ‘a fully independent craft beer, wine and cocktail bar and shop located in the heart of Barry next to the Goodsheds.’
I had the opportunity to try some drinks from this local Barry bar.
Here’s what I drank at Craft Republic.
I kicked things off with a Rockstar cocktail and a Pineapple and Coconut Daquiri.
On its menu the Rockstar cocktail is outlined as ‘Our take on a Pornstar Martini. Barry Island Vodka shaken with lemon, pineapple, passionfruit and topped with prosecco, served in a flute.’
For those who like a classic Pornstar Martini this is a must try if you’re in the Barry area. The passionfruit and prosecco combo certainly packs a punch!
Next up was the Pineapple and Coconut Daquiri, which is outlined on its menu as ‘Barry Island Rum, Kalani Coconut rum, lime juice, pineapple juice, served over ice.’
If you like a sweet drink this is the cocktail for you, the refreshing pineapple juice and coconut combination was like Craft Republic’s take on a Pina Colada.
Then I moved onto the Non-alcoholic Raspberry Citrus Spritz and Negroni.
The Raspberry Citrus Spritz is outlined on the menu as containing ‘raspberry lemonade, non-alcoholic prosecco and lemon and lime syrup.’
As far as mocktails go this was one was delicious and refreshing if you like citrus flavours, I recommend you give it a go.
Then I kicked things up a notch and had a Negroni. Craft Republic’s take on a Negroni includes Barry Island Gin, Discarded Vermouth and Campari served over ice.
This drink is meant to be savoured and isn’t something you can quickly knock back. If you are looking for something that you can sip slowly this is the drink for you.
The drink is very Gin heavy so I wouldn’t recommend this drink for on the fence Gin drinkers.
Price wise the business was fair. The Rockstar cocktail totalled at £8.50, the Pineapple and Coconut Daquiri at £8.25, the Raspberry Citrus Spritz at £5.00 and the Negroni at £8.50.
Overall, my experience at Craft Republic was great there was even a button to call over the servers when ordering from the menu they were quite literally a tap away.
Alongside the cocktail bar the business also has a shop located on Holton Road where they also sell a variety of Barry based alcoholic drinks.
Craft Republic also have a festive Christmas cocktail menu that will be released later in December. This reporter can’t wait to try it!
