A number of planning applications for works to homes in Barry have been submitted to the council.

Alongside these applications, there are a number of condition discharge applications for a range of ongoing developments.

Extension and garage conversion

An application for a first-floor extension, ground-floor garage conversion, and single-storey rear extension at 10 Gibbonsdown Close has been submitted.

This is a retrospective application, as the work was completed on December 20, 2023.

Discharge of condition

An application has been made for the discharge of a condition related to the water supply at the former railway sidings, Ffordd y Mileniwm.

This is for a residential development with associated infrastructure and open space.

The condition stated that no development should take place until a potable water scheme to serve the site was submitted and approved by the local planning authority.

The applicants have now provided a Water Main Requisition Offer Letter and other details prepared by Welsh Water, which sets out options for setting up a specified barrier pipe for the development.

Widening of vehicle crossover

An application has been submitted to widen the existing vehicle crossover at Ponders on Barry Road.

Approval has already been received from the council to break open the public highway.

Rear extension

An application for a part-retrospective application to regularise a rear extension, including the addition of roof lights and balcony screens, raised patio to the rear garden, enlarged landing window on west-facing side elevation, proposed render finish to the main dwelling and porch at 23 Enfield Drive, has been submitted.

As part of the biodiversity measures, a bird box will be added, with five new cherry laurel trees to be planted on the rear boundary of the property.

The existing retaining wall and cherry laurel trees will remain in situ.

Air source heat pump

An application for the installation of an air source heat pump on the side elevation at ground level at 63 North Walk, Barry, has been submitted.

The location is more than two metres from the boundary but less than three metres.

The applicant indicated that the installation of an air source heat pump is a natural progression, as they have a 6kW solar array and a 10kW battery.

They believe having an air source heat pump will allow them to disconnect from mains gas and greatly reduce the carbon footprint of the house, estimating that they will use around 9,000kWh less energy per year.

Side extension

An application for a proposed new second-storey side extension at 10 Marquis Close has been submitted.

The finishes will match the existing property, and to mitigate the loss of green elements of the garden as a result of construction, additional planting will take place, with an attempt to see a 10 per cent increase in the green elements.

This will include shrub planting in new tubs, a minimum of two new fuchsia plants in each existing border, and additional bedding plants like geraniums planted in groups of six.

Further environmental enhancements will include the installation of two new swift-type bird boxes and numerous bee hotel clusters of bamboo tubes in the borders and boundary recesses.

Discharge of conditions

Two applications for the discharge of conditions relating to planning ref 2024/00306/FUL, for the proposed redevelopment of a vacant brownfield site at Barry Waterfront for a new educational campus for Cardiff and Vale College, have been submitted.

The first is the discharge of condition 6, as the applicants have provided a construction environmental management plan.

The second is the discharge of condition 7, as the applicants have now provided a revised construction traffic management plan.
