A couple have sold 500 bottles of Gavin and Stacey-themed gin for fans to toast the Christmas special.

Claire and Tim Whalley created the limited edition bottles to commemorate the last ever episode of the popular BBC series which is set to air on Christmas Day.

They run Barry Island Spirits Co. in Barry, where Gavin and Stacey is set.

The couple's gin label features an outline of the show's characters and the words "The G&S Edition 2007-2024."

They created the special edition bottles and Rob Brydon, who plays Uncle Bryn in the show, gave the designs the thumbs up. Bottles of the gin were gifted to the cast and crew who worked on the Christmas special.

Ms Whalley, 44, said: "We love Gavin and Stacey, we are huge fans and we’ve lived on the island for nearly 20 years now.

"When we found out that the final episode of Gavin and Stacey was coming out, we wanted to do something to commemorate it.

"Rob Brydon gave the new designs a thumbs up when he visited us in August.

"His wife bought a bottle of our dry gin and they stopped for a chat, asking how everything was going.

"He really liked the artwork and even pointed himself out in the outline.

"We were contacted by Tidy Productions on their final day of filming as the director wanted some Barry Island Welsh Dry Gin hampers to present as gifts at the wrap party, so maybe James and Ruth will be sipping our gin watching the Christmas special."

Ms Whalley believes their 500 themed bottles of gin, priced at £40 each, would make an ideal gift for fans of the show.

She added: "On Christmas Day, we’re having lunch with family in Cardiff but are making sure we’re back on Barry Island, on our sofa with a Barry Island G&T in our hands to watch the final episode."

Fans of the show will recognise Barry Island as the home of Stacey and Uncle Bryn in the popular comedy series, starring James Corden and Ruth Jones.

The couple started Barry Island Spirits Co. by "accident" when they tried to make a gin to serve in the pub they run called Craft Republic.

The gin was so popular, they started a spirits range and now have their own shop as well as supplying bottles to other shops and restaurants, including Heston Blumenthal's Michelin-starred eatery, the Hinds Head.

They also have limited edition lines of Gavin and Stacey-inspired pink gin, rum, and vodka.
