A shop owner from Barry has retired after 34 years in business.
62-year-old Ram Jikerai has been running the Premier shop on Skomer Road for the last 34 years.
He’s an integral part of the Gibbonsdown community and has a fond place in many people’s memories.
He first took over the business back on October 1st, 1990, and served his last customer on October 30th last month.
We asked Ram what it was like to retire after offering good customer service for many years.
He said: “I’m a bit emotional but my time has come.
“A lot of people have said that it was a shock like and that they’ve coming here for ages and that I’m still here.”
Ram continued: “Theres a lot of happy memories and sad memories with everything and I’ve seen the community get built up over the years.”
A party for Ram’s retirement was thrown by locals last Friday (November 8th) at the Master Marina pub near his shop on Skomer Road.
Many locals attended the event and spent time with one of Gibbonsdown’s best known faces.
Councillor for Gibbonsdown Julie Aviet said: “Everybody in Gibbonsdown knows Ram and many grew up with him in the shop.
“He’s well known and liked by all.”
