Barry Town Councils ‘Which Craft?’ Hallowe'en event was a spooky success!
The event which ran from 10:00am-13:00pm in Kings Square on Hallowe'en day saw many South Wales based craft businesses group together to put on an affordable but fun family day out.
The public were able to choose from a range of different activities both outside in Kings Square and inside the town council building itself.
Barry and District News spoke to some of businesses involved in the event!
Stevie Howlett 31, was there with her business ‘The Witches Nook.’ The Swansea based business had many witch and wiccan themed items up for grabs. Including, signs, pendants, and even mini brooms!
We asked Stevie what she thought of the event she said: “It’s been amazing honestly; I couldn’t believe the chaos as soon as it turned 10 o’clock everybody was here and there’s so many people dressed up and just really enjoying themselves.”
“I’ve had loads of kids coming through and I’ve been giving out free stickers to every child.”
A more local business that attended the event was ‘Meggobakes.’ The Penarth based basked wowed at the event with ‘Zombie brain cupcakes.’
Local business owner Megan Hitchen 21 said: “As soon as it hit 10 o’clock it’s been heaving it’s just been non-stop.
“We’ve got zombie brain cupcakes, zombie eye cupcakes, and muddy brownies and we’ve got cookies.”
Another craft-based business at the event was Silly Goose Witch Crafts run by Hannah Edwards 41.
The Caldicot based business offered lots of different crotched characters including spooky ghost ones.
Hannah said: “The trinkets have sold really well so obviously that’s something that the kids are liking it’s been very jolly.”
Other crafters in attendance included ‘The Muud Studio’ from Barry Goodsheds.
The business run by Beth Reese 27, and Zade Campbell-Davies 28 is a pottery-based business that specialises in a selection of different clay-based goods and ceramics.
At the event they had lots of spooky Halloween pottery to choose for and paint for just £2:00!
Beth Reese explained: “It’s been great fun, and we’ve had even more business than we imagined.
“So, we’ve got the option of a zombie skull bowl, skulls heads, monster plates and pumpkin unicorns.”
Zade Campbell-Davies added: “We are really grateful that Barry Council subsidized some of the costs.”
Members of Barry Town Council also popped along and enjoyed the event.
Councillors Lesley Dancey and Dennis Clarke for Buttrills were in attendance.
Councillor Dancey said: “It’s brilliant as always, a lot of work goes into this you’ve got a lot of enthusiastic people, and I think the crowds speak for themselves it’s only the start of the day and look at it.”
Councillor Clarke added: “The staff at Barry Town Council have organised they’ve dressed up brilliantly and I just think it’s marvellous what’s happening here.”
Barry resident Lindsay Chambers 40 took her son Lewis to the event.
She said: “It’s a lovely, nice event, we always miss Doctor Bobs because he’s always got the biggest queue, but we made sure we got there first and we loved it.”
“We are booked in for the pottery later on and we booked a cupcake for a treat, and we are just going to look round and see what else they’ve got.”
Overall, the day was a spooktacular!
