A Christmas festival will return to Barry this year.

The Barry Christmas Festival will be back at King Square and Central Park on November 22 and 23.

The event, organised by Barry Town Council and Vale of Glamorgan Council, is part-funded through the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund.

The festival will feature a market, live music, funfair rides, and plenty more.

The highlight of the festival, the annual Christmas lights switch-on, will take place on November 22.

The town hall, Christmas tree, and town centre will be illuminated following a countdown with Santa and his elves at 6pm.

The festival will be open from 3pm to 7pm on the Friday.

The festivities will continue on November 23 from 12pm to 7pm.

Lumi the Reindeer, a four-metre-tall illuminated Christmas reindeer, will be at the event on the Saturday.

The Christmas market will feature more than 30 traders, selling personalised gifts, crochet, candles and jewellery, as well as cakes, honey, fudge, and alcohol.

Barry Town Council funds the Christmas lights on Park Crescent, High Street, and Holton Road each year.

This year, the council will also be lighting up the town hall and providing the Christmas tree on King Square.

Councillor Bronwen Brooks, leader of Barry Town Council and Vale of Glamorgan Council cabinet member for place, said: "I am delighted that Barry Town Council is able to keep the community spirit alive by continuing to fund the Christmas lights across the town, as well as the Christmas tree on King Square and the town hall lights.

"This year’s festive decorations will be a great example of partnership working in the town.

"Christmas can sometimes be a difficult time of year for people, and the Barry Christmas Festival is an event that celebrates coming together with friends and family, and being there for each other."
