A new restaurant offering traditional Nepalese cooking is opening in Cardiff.
Ram Sapkota 35, originally from Kathmandu in Nepal is promising to bring a ‘peaks to coastal’ style menu to Cardiff.
His Park Place based business is called ‘Basecamp Indian Kitchen.’
The name of course inspired by the famous Mount Everest basecamp located in Nepal.
The new ‘peaks to coastal’ menu will serve a geographical range of dishes from the Himalayan mountains to the Southern coast of India.
We asked Ram what foodies could expect he said: “Our concept is not to just be cooking as another Indian restaurant but more ‘peaks to coastal cooking.’
“It’s from the Himalayas to the bottom of the sea which is coastal for India.”
We asked Ram what dishes would be crowd pleasers. He recommended foodies try the ‘Momo dumplings’ which are popular in Nepal’s mountain regions.
Ram has had over 15 years experience in the UK hospitality industry and first opened his own business in Nepal aged 15 which was a traditional Nepalese style cafe. His latest business motto is to: “Embark on a gastronomic adventure with Base Camp Kitchen, where the spirit of the Himalayas and the soul of Indian coastlines are infused in every dish."
Basecamp Indian Kitchen can be found 29 Park Place, Cardiff.
The business is due to open before Christmas, but an official opening date has not yet been set.
