A member of the cast of Gavin and Stacey has been spotted out and about in Barry.
Fans of the show were delighted to learn that everyone’s favourite Welsh speaking meat vendor Dick Powell was in the area last Saturday (October 12th).
Dick Powell is a lesser-known character but produces many laughs throughout the series as the only Welsh speaking inhabitant of Barry.
Throughout the entirety of the show, Dick only answers characters back in Welsh and never once speaks English.
In season 3 of the show, he sells Uncle Bryn black market meat for a family BBQ.
Including, ‘asenna, asenna porc, stecen, sosej and kebabau’ and even three steaks for 87p!
So, what was the star doing in the area? Gwynfor Roberts, who plays Dick was seen visiting the RNLI visitor experience in Barry and was giving a talk about how important the work carried out by the RNLI is.
In a video posted online by the RNLI Gwynfor says: “I’m here in the Barry RNLI visitor centre, it’s amazing what they’ve got here, they’ve got a boat that’s been used to save over 135 people.
“The RNLI is not funded by anybody except you so they need your money to go out there and save people like you or your family or your friends who might get in difficulty.”
The RNLI was founded in 1824 and relies on public donations to operate. In 2023 alone it saved 355 lives.
Clearly, Dick Powell’s decided the message in this video is so important he’ll even switch to English dialect. Da iawn chi Gwynfor!
The Gavin and Stacey Christmas special will be available to watch in 72 days who knows if Dick Powell will make a surprise guest appearance…
