The Vale of Glamorgan Council has approved an application for the removal of a tree in Barry.
The conifer, located on Westward Rise, has become 'very tall' and is 'dying in the middle,' with branches dropping off according to the application.
The council included conditions in the approval, stating that the work must be completed within 24 months of the approval date.
It is crucial that bats and nesting birds are not disturbed or harmed during the tree work.
Therefore, a full visual inspection of the tree is required before the intended work begins to check for the presence of bats and nesting birds.
Bats may be found in cracks, cavities, under flaps of bark, and in dense ivy.
Natural Resources Wales can provide advice on bats and trees.
If bats are identified, either Natural Resources Wales or the council's ecology section should be contacted.
The council stated that the consent is specific to the plans and details submitted with the application.
Any deviation from the approved plans will be considered unauthorised work on a protected tree and may result in enforcement action.
