A man from Barry has completed a 100-mile run for charity.

Mike Jenkins, 36, in an ultra-marathon runner from Barry and, in a bid to raise money for his chosen charity ‘bigmoose’, he ran a total of 312 lengths of the Barry Island promenade.

The challenge saw him run from the Eastern Shelter on Barry Island to the fountain and back- which lasted an astonishing 22 hours and 57 minutes.

“The 100 miles was just myself but 70+ came to support making it a relatively large event in the end. The local Parkrun also showed support as I passed through which was incredible.”

In total mike raised £1800 for his charity bigmoose. He said:  “I chose bigmoose as they supported me personally earlier in the year, so it felt right to give back.”

‘bigmoose’ is a Welsh charity that provides therapy and early intervention to help people with their mental health. Their goals include preventing suicide and reducing homelessness.

Alongside an abundance of community spirit a famous face also showed up to watch Mike’s feat.

Gavin and Stacey's own Mick Shipman or Larry Lamb himself also rocked up to watch the event, Mike spoke to him after the race and even grabbed a bite to eat with him.

“He was lovely - a genuinely lovely man.”
