A man from Barry is running the Cardiff Half Marathon in aid of men’s mental health.
Dafydd Perry, 33, is an avid campaigner for the charity ‘Campaign Against Living Miserably Or CALM.
In the past he has struggled with his own mental health and wants to continue raising awareness surrounding the topic of men’s mental health.
Dafydd said: “I’ve always struggled with mental health, so I think they’re fantastic and I picked them.”
Last July he walked an astonishing 400 miles for CALM along the Vale coastal paths going from Rhoose Point and Porthkerry to Penarth.
Sadly, after he passed the 400-mile mark, Dafydd suffered a stress fracture – which stopped him in his tracks. However, despite not being able to reach his goal of 500 miles, Dafydd covered an impressive 410 miles and raised a total of £181 for CALM with £31 in gift aid.
The half marathon is a gruelling 13.1 miles, we asked Dafydd how training was going he said: “I’ve had to switch up my training, running was causing me a lot of knee injuries, so I’ve now switched to riding a bike instead of running.
“On the day I’ll be running though, I’m actually quite nervous! I don’t particularly enjoy the running, it’s the seeing the progress after when I finish the run that’s when I get the enjoyment.”
As it stands, Dafydd has raised an impressive £130 for CALM and is still receiving donations via his just giving page.
