A PRIMARY School in Barry has received a glowing Estyn report.
Inspectors visited Romilly Primary School in June. Their report, which was published in August, finds that “through exceptional leadership and the collective efforts of the school community, improvement at Romilly Primary School happens quickly.”
The rapid progress and excellent written work produced by older pupils was highlighted in the report. As was pupils’ success in frequently achieving high standards in digital, creative and scientific work.
Inspectors also found that pupils 'have the social and emotional skills to prepare them for adult life and appreciate the high levels of care and support that staff provide.'
Inspectors said the following: “From a very young age, they have well-developed independent skills, and their behaviour is exemplary.
"Remarkably impressive is how carefully they listen to feedback from staff and their classmates.
"They use this to improve their work and are often motivated to return to it to make it even better, when they have learnt new skills or techniques.”
Katy Williams, headteacher at Romilly Primary School, said: “I feel very proud and privileged to work with such dedicated and hardworking staff, governors, and pupils, as well as a fantastic and supportive community.
"I am also pleased to see that the report reflects our vision, which is to constantly strive to deliver outstanding access, attitudes and achievement.”
Cllr Rhiannon Birch, Cabinet Member for Education, Arts, and the Welsh Language, said: “Across the Vale we have hard working pupils and dedicated staff and nowhere is this more true than at Romilly Primary School.”
“It is particularly pleasing to see the report highlight that pupils love learning – something that I know the whole school community works together to embed.”
“I would like to congratulate everyone connected to the school on this fantastic recognition of their hard work. Gwaith da pawb.”
The report made two recommendations for the school; to improve pupils’ Welsh listening and speaking skills and to continue to work with the Vale of Glamorgan Council to address the school’s financial challenges.
The school will now produce an action plan to address these.
Romilly Primary School had 717 pupils on roll at the time of the inspection, making it the largest primary school in the Vale of Glamorgan.
The full inspection report can be found on the Estyn website.
