A COUPLE in Dinas Powys have set up a ‘Treat Station’ in remembrance of their former dogs Scooby and Kez.
Claire Millar and her partner Matt Taylor run Old Mill Cottage Dog Boarding.
The treat station which is attached to the outside of their Dinas Powys property on Mill Road, is stacked regularly so dog walkers can give their pets treats on the go.
They created the Treat Station as a way of coping with the sudden loss of two of their dogs.
The sign next to the box reads: ‘Please help yourself to a treat for your dog-In loving memory of our beautiful Scooby and Kez.’
Claire said: “The two dogs that had come by us through rescue charities and they meant so much to us-we gave the best lives we could.
“I wanted to put something nice on the gate to remember them.
“I top it up every few days and its lovely to see that people are spotting it and using it it’s like their legacy lives on.”
Claire told us a bit about the dogs honoured by the Treat Station.
“Our Doberman Girl (Kez) that’s featured on the box we adopted age six last January, and we suddenly lost her overnight in March.
"We came down in the morning and she’d passed away in her sleep.
“We only had a year with her, she was an ex-breeding bitch someone had used her all her life to produce pups and dumped her off at the rescue.
"Kez took Scooby’s place in our house. We had Scooby since he was 3 and he passed away aged 12.”
Alongside working with dogs, Claire is a welfare officer for The Hungarian Welfare Vizsla Charity - which is where she adopted Scooby From.
So far public reaction to the box has been overwhelmingly positive both online and in person.
One user commented online: “A lovely way to remember”
Another said: “That’s such a wonderful way keep the memory alive of their dogs and great treat for dogs passing by.”
