A ROWING Club from Barry ‘Monstered’ Loch Ness.

South Wales Coastal Rowing Club based in Barry recently underwent a monster of a challenge at Loch Ness.

The Monster the Loch challenge which took place September 21, saw more than 100 teams compete in gruelling race across Loch Ness.

The challenge is a 21 miles row that allows all ‘human powered boat types’ to compete. Even Pedalos!

The course, which runs from Fort Augustus, roughly takes about four hours to finish, however the epic race has seen this record broken numerous times.

Tony Peters, chairman of South Wales Coastal Rowing Club, lets us know how the Barry club got on.

He said: “Everyone’s had a really good time, and absolutely loved it. They’re all eager to come back next year.

“We went up to a pub last night and it was overlooking Loch Ness and the view’s absolutely stunning.”

Tony explained Team Barry’s timing in the event, saying: “We did it in three hours 35 minutes -the first men’s team and the second mixed team was three hours 51 minutes and the ladies team came in at four hours, five minutes."

South Wales Rowing Club caters for a range of different ages at that was seen in the vast age range of the people who competed.

Tony explained: “On 1 boat the age was 78 to 21!"
