An Indian takeaway in Barry has snatched the prize for runner-up in the Best Indian Takeaway category at the Food Awards Wales.
The Royal Balti on Vere St in Cadoxton is a multi-award-winning Indian takeaway and its latest award has left its owners Muhammad Ahmed and Niaz Haidari overjoyed.
Mr Ahmed said: “We are delighted to have achieved something so highly commended especially throughout Wales.
“I would like to thank all of my customers, and loyal people in the community who have always been supporting us, to have reached a stage where we are a multi award-winning takeaway in the Vale.
“They’ve always supported us in the good and bad and we are always trying our best to provide the best customer service and quality food and give a really good experience.
“A great thanks to my team hardworking members of staff who are always working hard to make sure we meet all the requirements and maintain our five-star hygiene rating and for cooking great curries.”
The prestigious event took place at The Coal Exchange Hotel in Cardiff last week and saw top professionals coming together to celebrate their achievements and make lasting business connections.
A spokesperson for the 7th Food Awards Wales said: “It’s an honour for us to highlight the top food establishments and businesses that have stood out amongst the rest in the Welsh food industry.
"This year’s finalists reflect the resilience and creativity of countless chefs, producers, employees and managers who are always ensuring that locals and visitors eat well.
"We want to congratulate all of our winners & highly commended recipients on their accomplishments.”
Royal Balti offers a variety of Indian-inspired fast food.
Popular items include the Indian munch box, loaded doner box and the nine-inch chicken tikka.
Its menu features a range of grilled main dishes like lamb chops and tandoori king prawns alongside various dinner boxes and sides such as onion bhajis and chips.
For those craving something sweet, Indian desserts and ice creams are also available to provide a satisfying end to a good meal.
They are open from 5pm until 11pm, seven days a week.
