Two Vale of Glamorgan Council members Councillor Emma Goodjohn and Councillor Carys Stallard are walking the length of the Glamorgan Heritage Coast footpath this month, to raise money for the RNLI and National Coastwatch.

Both Councillors are chairs of the Glamorgan Heritage Coast Advisory Committee and want to draw attention to this beautiful stretch of coastline.

Next year, the Vale will have had Heritage Coast status for half a century, which is something to be celebrated and the pair hope that their charity walk will encourage more people to get out and see what the coast has to offer.

Councillor Stallard said: “Having Heritage Coast status is important because it recognises that our coastline from Aberthaw to Porthcawl is really special.  The Council is working with the people who make a living along the coast to look after its biodiversity and its beauty. We want as many people as possible to visit and hopefully our walk will raise awareness of just how much there is to see and do on this spectacular stretch of coastline.”

Councillor Goodjohn said: “The RNLI and National Coastwatch do so much to keep people safe when they’re in or near the sea, with help from dedicated volunteers.  We want to highlight the vital work that they do and raise some funds for them too.”

The pair will be taking on the walk in three stages on the 16th, 17th and 18th September 2024.
