The Vale of Glamorgan Council has approved three planning applications for the Barry area in the last week.

The three applications relate to alterations to properties.

Demolition of garage and lean-to

The first application, for Penybryn, Llantwit Road, St Athan, proposed the demolition of an existing garage and lean-to rear extension, with plans set in place for a new garage, lean-to extension and internal remodelling.

In addition, there are plans to relocate the front door. This was approved.

The development must be carried out in line with the approved documents, 'begin no later than five years from the date of this decision,' according to the council, and all construction must match the materials used in the existing dwelling. Biodiversity enhancements must also be put in place.

Property extension

The second application highlighted plans for a modular extension at an address in White Farm, Barry.

The extension is to house a new bedroom and shower room, with a proposed new doorway linking the current living room to the added property.

The council approved the application with conditions including that work begins within five years, in line with approved plans and that "biodiversity enhancement measures" are carried out prior to the first beneficial use of the site. There must also be a biodiversity enhancement strategy approved by the council.

Extension and porch

The third approved application related to a one and two-storey side and rear extension, including a front porch, at 13 St Andrews Road, Barry.

The council required the development to "begin no later than five years from the date of this decision". It also must be carried out in line with the approved plans.

A scheme of biodiversity enhancements was a key condition listed, including the addition of plants to promote pollination and a specified bird box.
