Barry scooter enthusiast Jason Ude has revved his engine once again and completed yet another journey. This time he’s boarded Red Funnel Ferries and attended the 2024 Ilse of Wight Scooter Rally which draws in thousands of scooter enthusiasts each year. This years event ran from August 23rd -26th.

Ude 54, is known for completing charity scooter rides and has been riding scooters since he was 14 years old. He is part of the VFM, a scooter company that works alongside the British Scooter Rallies association committee. One of the key organisers in the scooter community responsible for the Ilse of Wight Rally. He had the following to say about this years’ experience.

“There were people from all over the world with all different types of license plates, on the island alone there was around 5 thousand Scooters, there were four nights of entertainment with many DJs, all kinds of Scooter music and live bands.”

“They had silent disco, rave, northern soul, ska, reggae, and punk- All scooter music.”

Like every British holiday the weather was unpredictable

 Jason said: “The only thing that let us down was the rain. We were hit by a hurricane from abroad on Thursday night and then Friday morning it went sunny, so things were great from there. The Weather was gorgeous after that.”

Ude recently completed a charity ride from Barry to Istanbul in Turkey starting on June 30th. He completed the journey in 10 days and donated all proceeds to the British Heart Foundation. In total he raised over £1,400.

This is only one of Jason’s many incredible rides for charity. He has also completed a lap of Wales for the Teenage Cancer Trust. (Which he finished in just over 15 hours), Driven from Barry to John O Groats in aid of Marie Cure, completed the three nations scooter challenge in aid of his selected breast cancer charity and the Welsh Air Ambulance and also, completed the London Orbital Scooter challenge, where all of Jason’s proceeds went to the RNLI.

Barry and District News asked how much mileage Jason has racked up over the years he told us the following:

“I’ve got a Vespa, I bought it 10 years ago, in 2014 it had 700 miles on it. It now has, just under 36 thousand-So basically, Thirty-Five Thousand Miles within the last ten years.”

Jason’s next trip is a 5-nation ride around the UK and Ireland which he plans on doing sometime next year.
