Cowbridge Music Festival is set to captivate audiences with a line up of musicians and genres throughout September.

The festival, now in its 14th year, brings world-class musicians to the community with a mission to make classical music approachable and enjoyable.

It also boasts an extensive community programme, which over the years has engaged more than 11,000 local pupils and care homes.

This year kicks off with the Castalian Quartet on September 13 at Holy Cross Parish Church.

The programme for the first concert ranges from Beethoven’s ‘Serioso’ Quartet to Coleridge-Taylor’s evocative Fantasiestucke. Rosalind Ventris, on viola, will join them to perform Dvorak’s Quintet in Eb major.

Highlights of this year's festival, which runs at venues across the town until September 22 include bilingual Welsh/English artist Eadyth Crawford performing her electronic soul pop, inspired by the landscapes of Merthyr Tydfil; Welsh pianist Llyr Williams with a programme featuring Beethoven and Brahms; a recital by rising stars Edgar Francis and Jams Coleman;   Welsh folk group Pedair making its festival debut, bringing a fresh interpretation of the Welsh folk tradition to Holy Cross Church; and the Cardiff-based Cantemus Chamber Choir celebrating Welsh folk songs, including Gustav Holst’s Twelve Welsh Folk Songs, in celebration of the composer’s 150th birthday.

The festival concludes with a choral evensong featuring beloved Welsh hymns.
