A FITNESS race event is set to come to Barry Island in a matter of weeks, with a race against the tide guaranteed to entertain.
The Red Bull Shore Shift, a fitness race which challenges athletes to complete a series of functional fitness workouts while the tide is coming in, will be making its way to Barry Island on Saturday, September 14.
Organisers said the event will be a "punishing functional fitness race on the beach, where contestants will have to tackle five coastal-themed workouts against opposing teams but also a race against the advancing tide."
Twenty selected gyms will be putting teams of four forward to complete a series of workout routines against the clock and rising tide, which will make the race harder to finish with every passing minute.
The open-air competition on Barry Island beach will take place between Bay 3 and Bay 6.
The Red Bull Shore Shift is planned to be a free event for all spectators, and invitation-only for competitors, kicking off the proceedings from 1.30pm.
