ANYONE travelling by train to or from Barry this weekend is likely to face some major disruption.

Transport for Wales has announced that there will be no trains to or from Barry or Barry Island on Sunday, August 18, until early afternoon.

According to a post on the Facebook group Beautiful Barry, which shared a poster from Transport for Wales, this halting of services on Sunday is due to essential engineering works.

While it is advisable that people do not attempt to travel on public transport in Barry during Sunday morning, there will be some coach and bus replacement services in place for those who need it.

This will be in place until the train services start up again just before 12.30pm on Sunday.

A bus replacement service will leave Cardiff Central and head to Barry Island every half an hour on Sunday from 8.10am until 12.10pm, with nine journeys between these times.

It is expected that the journey between Cardiff Central and Barry Island will take around 45 minutes on the bus.

The first train to depart from Cardiff Central for Barry Island will leave at 12.29pm on Sunday.

The bus replacement services heading in the other direction on Sunday, from Barry Island to Cardiff Central will also leave every half and hour, with the first service being at 8.25am and the last being at 12.25pm, resulting in nine journeys in this direction.

The journey is expected to take approximately 45 minutes on the bus.

The first train expected to depart from Barry Island for Cardiff Central on Sunday will leave at 12.49pm.

This is the second time engineering works have disrupted train travel between Barry Island and Cardiff Central this summer, after there were similar disruptions on Sunday, July 7.

There will also be bus replacement services between Cardiff Central and Barry Island between Monday, August 19 and Thursday, August 22, replacing cancelled late night trains.
