The Cowbridge Open Art Competition entries will be displayed this coming week.
The second biennial event is showcasing creators of 2D art, prints, and applied art (3D work) is taking place from Monday, August 19 to Saturday, August 31, 2024, in Cowbridge.
Cowbridge is renowned for its famous music and food and drink festivals and the community is now extending its artistic vision.
Contestants could enter in three categories and selected works will be exhibited in the Old Hall, Cowbridge.
The competition offers a total of £2,250 prize money with 16 prizes across art, prints, and applied art categories, including special awards for highly commended works and visitor’s choice.
Artists had to complete an application form by Sunday, July 21, 2024, and pay a fee to be entered.
The competition required all artists to be at least 18 years old, and all work must be for sale and is subject to a 25 per cent commission.
Accepted works had to be delivered to the Old Hall, Cowbridge, on Saturday, August 10 and Sunday, August 11, as they will be showcased in the art exhibition from August 19 to August 31.
The competition has been judged by three distinguished experts - Dr. Ceri Thomas for 2D Art, Pamela Jones for Applied Art and Martin Truefitt-Baker for Print.
Each judge is an experienced curator, lecturer or practitioner in their respective field. Ceri Thomas was the 1999 winner of the Gwyn Alf Williams Memorial Award and is a freelance artist, historian and curator. Pamela Jones is an award-winning figurative ceramic artist and studied ceramics at Cardiff Metropolitan University. Martin Truefitt-Baker was a graphic artist and illustrator and now produces acrylic and watercolour paintings.
The winners will be notified before the opening event on Sunday, August 18, 2024.
