BBC Radio 2’s weekday early breakfast presenter, Owain Wyn Evans, took part in Barry Island’s parkrun as part of Radio 2’s ‘Let’s Move It’ campaign.

'Let’s Move It' is a six week campaign across the station which aims to help motivate the nation to get moving and a bit more active this summer.

As part of the initiative, and in collaboration with parkrun, three Radio 2 presenters are joining in at Saturday morning parkruns at three mystery locations around the country, where they will be reporting live from these community events.

The first ‘undercover runner’ was DJ Spoony who took part in a parkrun in Bedford on Saturday July 27.

On Saturday, August 3, Owain Wyn Evans was the ‘undercover runner’ doing the run in Barry Island.

Owain, who recently joined the Homes Under the Hammer team, said he enjoyed the ‘ambiance’ of the Island.

“I had such a fabulous morning at the Barry Island parkrun, the sun was shining and the community spirit was out in full force,” said Owain.

“It was a lovely mix of joggers, more seasoned runners and someone like me who was just enjoying the ambiance.

“I was indulging in more of a social saunter I would say.”

About BBC Radio 2’s Let’s Move It

Radio 2 has launched Let’s Move It - a six week summer campaign across the station which aims to motivate the nation to get moving and active.

Whether walking, running, dancing, swimming or anything related to activity, listeners will be asked to pledge their personal goal for the next six weeks of the summer alongside Radio 2 presenters who will be setting their own challenges for Let’s Move It.

On the initiative, Jo Whiley said: “For me, exercise is the cure all. I know that no matter how little I do, once I’ve done some kind of activity - whether it’s a swim, a run or a gym session - I will feel SO much better for it. Fact!”

Helen Thomas, head of Radio 2, said: “Let’s Move It is about bringing people together to be a bit more active and get fitter this summer.

“We want to encourage and inspire the nation to get moving, bringing them their very own coaches from across Radio 2’s shows.”
