IN Barry, we immortalise Gavin and Stacey in settings and tours, and burgers!
In June last year, B&D revealed a burger van had opened on the island that was making Uncle Bryn themed burgers including ‘Rudi’s rude chicken burger’, and, of course, ‘the Uncle Bryn’ - served with Welsh lamb, crisp lettuce, succulent tomatoes, and mint yoghurt.
In an update to the burger van’s fortunes, it has changed hands, with a new family now taking on the crucial task of immortalising Bryn in burgers.
Chelsea Wright, along with husband Chris, began the burger van in front of Barry Athletic Bowls Club, off Paget Road, and it’s still there, but now it’s run by Jon Gould and family.
Mr Gould explained: “We bought the business and reopened it on July 12.
“Chelsea and Chris ran it before, but with their full-time work commitments they struggled to keep it open consistently.”
Mr Gould said this was something he intended to change, aiming to have Bryn’s burger van open five days a week.
Mr Gould also ensured the uniquely Gavin and Stacey curated menu would not be tampered with - so you can still get your ‘big Ness breakfast baps’ and ‘Gwen’s homely breakfast rolls’.
Bryn’s burgers aren’t just fun, they’re quality, with the burger meat sourced from local butchers Glamorgan Meats just across the way in Rhoose, and all the other ingredients being fresh, with new rolls brought in every day.
Mr Gould did say he was planning to bring in a few additions to the menu including the traditional seaside classic faggots and peas, but he hasn’t come up with a Gavin and Stacey themed name for the dish yet – any suggestions?
Mr Gould also waxed lyrical about Gavin and Stacey coming back to the town for one final filming fling.
“The filming will bring business to the town,” said Mr Gould.
“It might cause a brief bit of traffic chaos, but a lot more people will come to town. I wish they’d do more.”
Bryn’s Burger Van on Paget Road just in front of the bowls club is open Wednesday to Sunday 10am to 4pm.
